Glad to see all the responses and good discussion!
I think the best answer is a half as tall Full Race/Cobb intercooler. It would still allow fresh air to part of the AC condenser, allow for a winch to be mounted, allow fresh air to the transmission cooler and still be 2x as good as the stock...
Think you guys missed the point of relocating the IC. The OP wants to put a winch where the current IC is. Upgrading the stock IC in the stock location doesn’t help.
I don’t know if you could relocate the exact intercooler because of where the inlets and outlets are but I think keeping the same size is probably the best option - keeps your warranty intact, no tuning required, doesn’t block your AC and you don’t have to worry about your car overheating...
I would agree but this simply isn’t possible for those of us wanting to run a winch without without a massive front bumper (which would stop me from fitting in my garage).
Why doesn’t anyone make a stock sized intercooler that could go in the grill? That way you only block half of the...
I have been contemplating this for a long time. I posted this a little while ago trying to solve the exact same problem. https://www.fordraptorforum.com/threads/warranty-compliant-winch-options.75060/#post-1462559
If you do the intercooler relocation, you can always upgrade the radiator and...
Agreed. especially one that is hard to remove and super expensive.
Also, I don’t think the ADD rack works with any tonneau. Think I’m gonna design my own setup.
I’ve been looking non stopped for the past week to this question and can’t find a good solution. All the racks I’ve looked at have a vertical bracket that mounts inside the bed. How are so many people not running bed covers?? When I go camping, I need all the dry storage space I can get.
The...
What’s the advantage to going with a 20”? Doesn’t that hurt off road characteristics? Less sidewall to flex when airing down. Or are you just doing it for looks? Not looking to start a tire size debate. Just curious.
Sadly, this is how the world works. Most people don’t understand proper engineering. They just want flashy/bigger/taller. Now that I think about it, dodge caters exclusively to these types of people.
This is exactly what I was looking for! Though I prefer the looks of the stealth fighter, this one looks practical and keeps Ford from trying to deny warranty work.
How do you like it? Which winch did you get? Is your front camera completely blocked?
Thanks for posting!
Personally I couldn’t use more than about 3 for lights. At that point, I’d wire multiple to one switch. I’ve also never seen a winch driven off the aux switches.
I have seen onboard air compressors and the mirror spot lights wired in.
I’m planning to use one switch to connect my BD lights to...
I wasn’t aware of that. I figured the larger IC would cause some major changes to fueling maps but I guess lots of the time the ECU runs in closed loop so who knows.
Maybe that will be my plan - relocated IC with an ADD bumper/winch combo and no tune. Do you think that would safe from a...
Great build so far! What’s your verdict on the Ride Assist Springs? I had never heard of them.
Thinking of going with the standard Deavers rather than HD and then using those in the rare times it’s loaded.
I’d start here: https://www.fordraptorforum.com/threads/%E2%80%9Cmust-do-mods%E2%80%9D.67604/
Then it depends on what you want. Are you gonna rock crawl? Is it a daily? Do you want more power?
If I had significant dough to make it badass, I would try to do half as good as ZombieKiller’s...
I am looking for ways to mount a winch without creating a way for a warranty claim to be denied. The only option I’ve come across is the Warn Ascent bumper which appears to leave the stock intercooler in place (though with reduced airflow most likely). Is anyone aware of a way to mount a winch...
is Cobb aware of this? Seems like that could get those with tunes into how water at the dealerships who will promptly blame it for just about anything.
Why would changing the tire size effect anything? Just curious because my friend got a tire size error code when uninstalling his Cobb. Probably didn’t set it back to factory..
I thought that the transmissions were produced by Ford and they had some venture with Getrag?
Also, I think the problem there was Ford new about the issues before the first model was ever sold and still continued with production and sales.
I wanted to post a summary should this be useful to others in the future. The truck is driving fine (for now) and I haven’t been able to reproduce the error.
Break down
I was on the freeway and accelerated from 78 to 85 in M10 at which point the engine become unresponsive and a series of...
And maybe those of us with issues are so loud that we make the truck seem more problematic than it is. I love my Raptor when it functions well but I’m certainly loosing trust in it.
As I’ve said above, it’s not acceptable for so many errors to be created from one malfunction. I’ve heard from...
That’s a good link. I’m wondering if the throttle body could be failing causing an inconsistency in the TPS voltage vs what the servo is commanded to do.
That’s a good thought but no, it’s all stock.
Maybe “hard” is the wrong word. I am saying that I am accelerating hard enough that the tranny would normally downshift to 9th had it not been in manual. I prefer to accelerate slower and avoid the downshift which is next to impossible in manual mode. I would guess I was about at 25% throttle...
Let’s say you’re right and I’m dumb. How much throttle is it ok to apply at 78MPH in M10? What RPMs would I be at? Would you expect the powertrain to fail? Would you expect to register knock?
I hear what you’re getting at and I’m certainly open to it but the facts don’t support your theory.
I am not a lawyer but I don’t believe there is any liability here. Leaving one stranded on the side of the road or idling in limp mode at 10MPH comes with more liability.
That’s pretty much how I’m feeling.. And this is not the first issue. The computers have freaked out and left me stranded...
