The assist works awesome, just some insite, the assist shock should not be supporting the tailgate weight, the tailgate cables are there to still do there job, just make sure your tailgate was all the way down, so the deezee set up is in the right location.

If your guy is a solid welder, just do it, done right and a little black paint, no one would know, unless they new what they were looking at, plus the piece of mind, and preventative damage.

I can't answer your question, but if you have them, and your going to put 3.0 on, I would just do the upgrade, why take a change and possibly, damage more than the shock bracket, like the new shock, bed of the truck, why do it twice, and or kick your self in the ass if something happens.

The shocks should of also been covered by the ESP plan, to many dealers bullshit people, give the run around, mine does and did, so I got my 1,400 back and I'll repair it my self. here's a picture of the covered items, high lighted by my dealer when I first took the coverage.
