A lot of cutting and a mini-sledge. Unfortunately the Gen 2s are a bit more complicated to *properly* fit 37’s on than the Gen 1s. Like others have said, you can make them clear well enough for daily driving, but the second you start pounding through the desert you’ll start blowing fender...
I live here in the high desert, and as a result have spent a great deal of my life in Death Valley. Ive also spent some time out at 29 Palms (Joshua Tree area) supporting the Marines in the field, and it truly is amazing how damn hot it can get out in the desert. When the wind picks up it’s...
Silver isn’t hard to blend/match if you have a half-decent painter. Black on the other hand, is very difficult and will be immediately noticeable if they don’t do their prep work or blend properly.
If you actually offroad? None. The only downside is extra mass, however 37” BFGs are only 4-5lbs heavier per corner than 35’s. Better ride, more rubber between you and the road/trails, and hell even my mpg went up after I switched to the bigger tires.
Hey brotha, sorry to hear you’re going through it right now. As others have said, if you’re going to sell then I’d do it now. For what it’s worth, I was offered $33,900 for my 2014 with 107,000 miles on it. You could probably get a nice chunk of change since yours has much fewer miles.
I’m honestly kind of surprised that your Fox’s are that loud. I have King 3.0s which I’ve heard are the noisiest, and they’re dead quiet unless I start sending the truck through drainage ditches or a whoop section.
Nice. Very cool option for those with a set of Gen 2 takeoffs; I probably would’ve gone this route instead of rebuilding my stockers (before I stepped up to Kings), if they had been available.
I do what I can to avoid the big stuff, but some things are just unavoidable when you’re trying to hustle a 6200lb truck through some tight single track at 40-70mph. Here in the high desert we have toooons of creosote, cacti, random bull****, and tight trails so it’s pretty fun trying to make...
Like everyone else has said, you’ll get more for your truck the closer it is to stock. Honestly the truck market is insane right now; I just got an offer yesterday for $33,900 for my Gen 1 SCREW with 108,000 miles on it. I love my truck to death, but that’s almost $2k more than I paid for it 18...
Yeah I’ve talked to him a few times about those tires, and he mentioned basically everything you said. They’re bomb proof but loose; which out in the desert is a good thing.
My buddy runs BFGs on his 1400 class truck (you’ve probably seen it in some of hoonigan’s videos) and he loves em. He runs their 40” Baja T/A, but they are ooooutraaaaaageously expensive.
I’ve used Dynamat with all of my project cars and have always had great experiences. I had a bunch of rattles and squeaks coming from my passenger door until I took it apart and stuffed it full of that Dynamat. Great stuff
Very easy, but a pain in the ass because I didn’t have the right size sockets. All you have to do is push up on the steering rack while loosening, and have a big ass wrench to grab the bolt while you’re breaking the nuts loose. I believe Ford rates them as a 1x use stretch bolt, but tbh I just...
+1 for a set of feeler gauges, way better than one of those gap tools. And I’m trying to remember what I gapped mine at...I feel like I split the difference at 0.044, but it might’ve been 0.042.
Another +1 for SDHQ. If you can ship the shocks, I’d recommend Keen ShockWorks out in San Diego. He did my Kings for a very fair price and answered plenty of questions while I was installing them.
