A Ford tech's take on "THE CLUNK" (THE ONE and ONLY CLUNK THREAD)

The original TSB was 10-22-06. It supersedes an earlier TSB but would only apply to a 2009 or 2010 I believe. Page 6 of this thread discusses it. There was also 11-05-07 it is on page 30 something in this thread or follow this link...

A Ford tech's take on "THE CLUNK" (THE ONE and ONLY CLUNK THREAD)

I am not aware of a permanent fix at this time short of installing a different style shaft or installing a grease point. Pulling the shaft is easy yourself with basic hand tools and you can get the TSB specific grease from the dealer or online. If you don't want to deal with it yourself you can...

A Ford tech's take on "THE CLUNK" (THE ONE and ONLY CLUNK THREAD)

Hit 1500 miles today and clunk returned. Just got back from a trip to Maryland. All miles were on road and after pulling shaft it appears that all previous grease was washed out just by rain. Thinking I will replace the seal on the t-case and see if that helps retain grease longer. Used anti...

A Ford tech's take on "THE CLUNK" (THE ONE and ONLY CLUNK THREAD)

1000 miles since greasing and no return of the dreaded clunk. Will continue to post updates over time. All road miles thus far.

A Ford tech's take on "THE CLUNK" (THE ONE and ONLY CLUNK THREAD)

Clunk be gone! My truck is finishing repairs following an accident involving water. The rear driveline clunk became more than I could bear today. Pulled my rear shaft and checked the splines. No signs of any scarring or damage but the splines were wet and most of the grease had been washed...

Recommended dealers for warranty / service

Kissler Ford Toledo Ohio. Kissler Ford. Service liason Mark Tomasi. If you have an electronic issue ask for Chris. This dealership practically disassembled the front and interior of my truck following a flood claim and big screw ups at another local shop. Basically brought them a truck in a box...

Yes all repairs are warranted under the claim for the life of the vehicle. If you ever have to submit a claim ensure you get this in writing prior to closing the claim. I also have 30,000 miles remaining on my powertrain warranty and all oem parts replaced are warranted as well as the labor...

    6.2 rebuild

While we all agree this should have been a total loss they are paying out big time to make sure this is handled appropriately. They could have gone a different way with this whole thing and made things really difficult. Honestly I hope that if anyone finds themselves in a similar situation they...

    Water

Frankly, I'm worried about a lot of things! Just hoping wben I get it back that I can spend some time trying to make things go wrong prior to finalizing the claim. Most likely I will leave the claim open as long as humanly possible. Most likely about 6 months. Guess we'll see Wednesday. Spoke...

    Water

I have no doubt that you're right about that. Water is the worst. Definitely be interested to see what you had replaced though. Can't imagine resale value not taking a big hit on this one. Feel free to send a PM if it's easier. No matter what thanks for the feedback.

Stupid or not its happening. New motor is installed, fuel system has been flushed ,and new carpet and pad is in. Thanks for the fast reply though. Any insights regarding the original questions? Would you be willing to let me know what you had replaced/repaired so I can compare/contrast with my...

    Water

My truck was involved in a flood /accident. This resulted with water in the cab just below where the dash starts. I know... thats a lot of water. Truck has a hydrolocked motor, water in tank/fuel system, and interior has been gutted. Everything is being replaced under insurance. Company...

Silver Lake Sand Dunes in a few weeks?

My 2 cents Okay so went to Silver Lake a few weeks after opening weekend and just getting around to posting about the experience. So I'm used to wheeling in a close knit friendly community type of wheeling environment. My impression of SL and especially with regards to social media was the...

    6.2 rebuild

Was unable to make something work with Livernois as the difference in cost for a new motor from Ford was cheaper and thats what the insurance will pay for. Considered covering the difference but my house flooded same day so most of my cash is tied up there. Either way getting a new long block...

    6.2 rebuild

I have the dealer looking for a new motor as well. They have to contact the vendor and get back with me tomorrow. I also looked at Jenson motors but they do not have the 6.2 available. Still holding out hope that something with Livernois will work out.

    6.2 rebuild

Just got a $3,750 quote from my local dealer for just the swap. $4,824.64 was the quote for a remanufactured long block from the dealer. Kind of makes you wonder why there are such huge differences between dealers/shops. I would advise anyone in the same situation to get several itemized quotes...

    6.2 rebuild

That's a pretty awesome offer. Thanks for that. Tomorrow the truck is being towed to a local shop. There is more work to be done than just the motor due to the accident. I really appreciate your offer though and if things go bad I may very well be in touch.
