Just went through same thing and the sway bar end links are the culprit; would bet on it.

understand where you are coming from, but no aftermarket options right now - not that i could find, anyway. i thought it through and for the <$200.00 the parts (with new locking nuts) cost and the hour to put them on myself, it is well worth it to not listen to that f'in clunk from under my truck.

i have the Bak Revolver X4S and love it... super easy to roll up and still low enough to see over when fully retracted/rolled. reasonably water resistant and tight seal/no noise.
