I drive my '11 daily.
It is nearing 167,000.
Shocks haven't been touched still.
It needs those and I have had some expected maintenance since getting it almost years ago.
Even with needing all the worn out pieces, I love driving it around.
Good luck with your shopping.
With all the force it took for me to crush sleeves, I would never think one would collapse, shrink, or get smaller on it's own.
My guess, but I been wrong before, and learn new stuff quite often.
Good luck with the fix and it being permanent.
I have yet to see a "brush guard" "grille guard" type of bumper that doesn't do more damage upon a deer hit than what would happen w/o.
There are a TON of deer in my area.
Prior to hunting season opening in the fall, I had mornings last year that I saw 100+ whitetails along the roads during my 9...
The vacuum lines running to the IWEs are pretty common issue too.
Not only was I directed to them when I asked here, but the issue was PINPOINTED ! Mine was driver's side and I was told to take a look near the top of the shock. SURE ENOUGH.
But...
PLENTY of info here and many other F-150/Ford...
Interesting thoughts and approach.
I have been mainly considering either buckets to run Gen2 s or the MIKRA set ups, if I ever get ambitious and ready to spend some $
It wouldn't be much of a task with a CNC lathe.
But, not cheap either.
With oil temp being the concern, wonder what the body material difference would really make??
Finned rather than smooth round body could dissipate heat better, like aftermarket remote reservoirs.
I was having thoughts of...
I have been shopping and needing to replace my Gen1's shocks for a while.
While I am a 3D cad/cam designer, CNC programmer, and toolmaker; building a new shock from scratch (which I assume you are heading towards) seems like an awful lot of work to "reinvent the wheel". There are a few methods...
As mentioned above...
steering rod connections can wear out.
I had an Expedition that had slop that made for 1/8"-1/4" backlash in the wheel.
It was the u-joint all worn out.
Made a little clunk clunk each time you changed steering direction.
Not sure if what you have happening, but something to...
My area roads get COATED with liquid chloride.
It just EATS everything driven around here.
I see some neighbors' cars and trucks with holes after 1 or 2 winters.
I have been storing my "nicer" vehicles and driving beaters whenever I can.
Raptor still has cab corners and rockers so it gets...
It's been a while, probably over a year, but when I did my IWEs and had to remove the axles, there was a pretty small axle nut compared to most other AWD or FWD vehicles I have had to work on. No 30+mm axle nuts. Don't know if it was 10mm, but that may have been close. Good luck with the fix
