@EricM, you make a good point. And I have a theory. Just about every time I need a part from that dealership they have to order it - fluids aside. The surface of the aluminum thermostat gooseneck on my Raptor became pitted and started leaking a little bit. It's a cheap aluminum part - a...
I wish I had known that!!!
But after they got it stuck in 4HI, a new shift motor may or may not have resolved the problem.
This has several layers. I am hoping that the service manager is willing to peel the onion with me.
I drove the truck into the dealership in 2WD. They removed the shift motor and tried to manually shift the transfer case. They succeeded - in a way. They got it into 4HI and then couldn't shift it back to 2WD, so I left the dealership in 4HI and was told to keep the speed under 50mph until...
Here is the text of my letter to the service manager. It goes out in the mail today.
Service Manager,
I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the replacement of the transfer case on my 2011 Ford Raptor with you. The wrench icon appeared at approximately 85,000 miles when I attempted to...
Here is how the service invoice reads concerning the diagnosis of the problem:
"Verified customer concern and found that the wrench light comes on when trying to switch between 2WD and 4HI. Visually inspected and no issues present, no signs of damage. Checked for codes and TSB's. No TSBs...
Over $100.000 when it's over and done with, and then there is the insurance bill on a vehicle that costs what a house should cost.
I paid $41,000 for my 2011 SCAB.
I'm going to play it pretty close to that, but as a matter of courtesy I don't want to hit him cold and unaware. My opening bid will be a letter to the service manager explaining the circumstances, asking if he would be willing to personally examine the transfer case, and asking for a scheduled...
@Macdaddy , it's a bit bulky to carry around. :) I think I might put it in the bed of the truck and invite the service manager to come outside for a look.
@CoronaRaptor , I seek success. Success in this case is a $1,720 refund, not an entertaining video. But yeah, that video would be mighty...
They assured me that the new transfer case had internal components that are more robust than the original. Well heck, I can't tell what failed in the original transfer case. That's the mystery!
Thank you for responding, @FordTechOne. The tech is a female, I've dealt with her several times when she was working the service desk, and she has always seemed both competent and knowledgeable.
I think you're right about how they manipulated the transfer case. What they told me when they got...
The wrench icon appeared at 85,195 miles on my GEN1, so of course I took it to the local dealer. (Same dealer my wife bought her Ford Edge from.) In the process of diagnosing the problem they managed to get it stuck in 4WD High, and told me that the shift fork in the transfer case had broken...
Mine failed. The camera assembly costs $478.77, the Ford emblem costs $42.44 (the camera cannot be R&R'd without destroying the emblem), and the labor as charged by my local Ford dealership was $240. Total: $761.21
@radelow , what part number are you talking about? I don't see anything on SVC's website that remotely resembles your traction bars for $60.
What I see is off-road track bars for $1,099.99:
GEN1...
I have what may be a dumb question:
Why can't a Raptor owner take his VIN to the Ford dealership parts counter and ask what the proper part numbers are?
BINGO.
And it's not merely the weight of the tires and wheels, it's also what they do to the final gear ratio. Put those bigger tires on the "work truck" and see what happens.
Both of my fog light pairs are SAE. I didn't say anything against them. What I said was:
"I have two pair of fog lights - one amber, one white.
Both sets are halogen, as they get warm enough to be self-defrosting and shed frozen gunk before it accumulates enough to render them useless.
I use...
I have two pair of fog lights - one amber, one white.
Both sets are halogen, as they get warm enough to be self-defrosting and shed frozen gunk before it accumulates enough to render them useless.
I use them for fog.
I despise drivers who run fog lights when there is no fog, and I can't tell you...
