Up for new tires contemplating 39s

I think the stock brakes were fine for short distance type of stuff, like some of the offroad park raptor "events". Alcons are a HUGE improvement on Baja runs. They stop better, don't fade at all and generally inspire confidence. I think Alcon brakes are the best improvement that you can make...

GEN 2 Secondary Shock with Icon kit

kibbe has done a kit, shaffer's offroad has done a kit and there is for sure a 3rd kit that was scheduled to release at SEMA, but with all of the COVID19 stuff, who knows if that still stands. all of the short course "kits" require fabrication and fitting. I think that you'll be plenty happy...

Up for new tires contemplating 39s

it was a bit of a feat to get KR3s on my truck while retaining all of the travel and being able to go to full bump through the full steering motion without interference. It can sometimes feel like it always "would be better with", but my comment was actually more about making the front and...

Up for new tires contemplating 39s

you're going to be able to go faster, hit bigger holes and hit them harder. Combine all of this together and you're going to need more fluid volume and valving. The dynamics of the larger tires are also going to beg for the extra control that the secondary bypass offers. It isn't just about...

GEN 2 Secondary Shock with Icon kit

hope you are well too! I'm not aware of any of the Exo crew members running a secondary with an icon kit, but I do know that one of the attendees was going to add a secondary to the front of his roush truck. As far as mid-travel goes, I think it becomes a matter of what you are trying to...

Up for new tires contemplating 39s

you're gonna want a secondary bypass with those 39s. and, more than likely, you're going to need to not just cut the firewall, but also plate it. Ive seen one gen1 running the km3 39s. It was a mid-travel truck. he had a gen2 conversion one piece.

GEN 2 Secondary Shock with Icon kit

id stick with icon for the secondary bypass. That way you have a hope of getting some tuning help from them if you get stuck. ( plus I just like things to match). ADD also makes a lower arm with a secondary bypass mount. You can also get the upper mount for the secondary from them.

What ride got attention, wanted or unwanted?

my raptor gets LOTS of attention. It doesn't matter if it is on the trailer and I'm filling up the tow rig at a gas station, stopped at a rest stop, sitting in a parking lot... Hell, I've even come out of a hotel to grab something out of the truck and met people taking pictures of it int he...

    GEN 2 Paddle shift times.

all good. I'm no pro driver, it is just an interesting skill for me to learn. Making this big ass heavy bitch of a truck pirouette is really fun. I have friends and acquaintances that are legitimate professional race drivers. The things that they can make vehicles do constantly boggles my mind.

    GEN 2 Paddle shift times.

you still need to countersteer. maybe yall are undiscovered, next gene robbie gordons, but I keep two hands on the wheel in a racecar/racetruck based on how I learned to drive. You should NEVER turn the wheel to the right with your left hand, and you should never turn the car left with your...

    GEN 2 Paddle shift times.

not really. If I'm mid-turn and I need to get the right gear, while attempting to counter-steer to the right, I'd need a third arm to shift with the gear selector on the console. The "stability control" that you can't turn off ( i'm not talking about traction control or advancetrac) likes to...

    GEN 2 Paddle shift times.

the paddle shifters are exceptionally slow and lazy. With a locked rear end, leaving the truck in D makes it corner entirely unpredictably with all of the nannies off. The truck consistently will try to shift mid-corner and makes for a fairly white-knuckle 360 very quickly. If I wished for...

    So long, Raptor. Hello Tremor!

the 350 is designed to support major weight. It isnt designed to CONTROL said weight offroad. It doesn't flex, it suspends. The forces applied offroad would not be sufficient to actually compress the springs, so riding in the truck would feel like riding a pogo stick. desert truck suspension...

    So long, Raptor. Hello Tremor!

the 7.3 is much much lighter than the 6.7. A 250 with a carli pintop kit, carli swaybar and carli full leaf packs can do just about everything that a stock raptor can do, sans jumping. It drives like a much much larger truck. It drives like it is far heavier. My raptor feels like a ferrari...

    GEN 2 5.2 engine

completely agree. I'd drive 1000hp raptor on 35s as a daily, but I don't want or need my current truck with that kind of power. ( at least not until someone plugs me into the matrix and instantly grants me the ability to drive like Robbie Gordon or Tom Wayes. ) The 1000 HP danzio is being...

    GEN 2 5.2 engine

An LS swap into my raptor would cost me an easy $60K if I wanted all of the electronics, including the variable braking, torque management and stability control to operate properly. Going coyote with mild massaging nets me an expedient swap while retaining all factory features. Losing the...

    Overlanding Spare Parts

desert rule #1, " If you break your truck, first relax, then crack a beer. Use the time that it takes to finish the beer to contemplate the best way to fix the truck. Once beer is finished, commence fixing truck."

    GEN 2 5.2 engine

I'm Switzerland here, so don't hate me, but I don't know that I've seen anyone driving a stock raptor that can effectively use all of the power that it has off of the lot when offroad. I'm not totally certain what most people think they'll get from a monster horsepower desert truck ( "monster"...

    GEN 2 5.2 engine

My engine dude says that getting what I'm seeking out of a gen3 coyote with heads, some custom grind cams, headers, throttle body, and a dialed tune is entirely possible. he feeds his family building motors, so until he's proven wrong, I'm going with it. maybe I'll do a fueling upgrade and...

    GEN 2 5.2 engine

I'm talking in the context of a full build. If the truck is like most and sees 95% street and is destined for no more than maybe a shock upgrade, by all means... I firmly believe that ford producing any volume of 800hp raptors will just mean that I am gonna need to learn how to fix them. ( and...

Rear bumper with swing out tire carrier?

HERE is the camera that I'm using. ( the link is for the gen1 version. I am using the gen2 version.) The camera is the small square in the middle of the "Louisiana" on my license plate.

Rear bumper with swing out tire carrier?

you can get an aftermarket camera that is higher res than factory and 1"x1"x 1" dimensionally. The camera kit costs $200. Plugs right into the factory harness and the video displays on the nav screen like stock. It even comes with a bracket to mount it above the license plate. I have one of...

    Kinetic Rope Storage?

I keep mine in a dry bag with soft shackles, hard shackles, a pair of gloves and a static rope. I have it secured on top of my proeagle jack in the bed. The other option would be to buy one of the builtright panels and cinch it to that so its up and out of the way. ( you could also make your...

Thoughts on trading '18 Raptor for new '19/'20 Limited?

a limited rides like a dump truck compared to a raptor. I had one as a loaner when my raptor was getting warranty work. It made me sad. If I was thinking about a mid-travel build and a cage, I'd go with an f-150 with the interior and drivetrain options that I wanted. But if you plan to...

    GEN 2 5.2 engine

While I absolutely agree on a stock or mostly stock truck, I think there is a "line". Once you go full-on build and the truck doesn't telegraph when you're about to wad it up anymore, there is such a thing as too much power. Hell, 6100s top out at what, 525hp? It ain't about how fast you can...
