The "True Value" is whatever the parts are worth. No insurance company would provide full coverage, there's zero warranty, lots of liability, and the workmanship is sketchy at best.
That being said, back decades ago the Pantera owner's club used to buy wrecked models to share the parts that...
If you accidentally fu ck up and break the coil connector like I did, this is a great video showing how to replace just the connector without cutting or splicing anything. The part number should be WPT-931...
The possibility of buying new (factory) repair parts for a Raptor R?
Nope. The cab, 4 doors, the hood, fenders & bed were all destroyed. On a regular 2023 F150 Lariat those parts are easily $10K. Double that for a limited production R model. Just the airbags alone is several thousand dollars...
If you financed it as a project vehicle, then you have the liability of making payments without the asset of having a daily driver. The best analogy is having a hot stripper as a girlfriend who doesn't want to fu ck. This never ends well. (I've been told).
Or just find a solid f150 within your price range. Pay it off, do all required maintenance. THEN, do a Raptor suspension swap. You will have Gen 1 suspension capabilities, with the lower insurance rate of a regular f150.
Are the Torsen units in newer trucks the same design as older versions? Because the older Torsen units have been added to many thousands of regular f150 trucks for over a decade, and I've never heard of them having a high failure rate.
Here's the most important measurement of whether or not it was the right purchase:
Do you grin like an idiot when you drive your Raptor?
My guess is that most people on frf do.
Thats true for youtube repair videos as well. So many of these where they edit out (or omit) the toughest part of the repair. You can tell by the comments; "hey thanks for showing how easy this is", then 3 days later "hey fu cker, you lied about that".
The only desert trucks I've seen with 20+" of (usable) travel; using leaf springs, were SUA-style. They were in a class that mandated leafs, and at that range the shock needed to be valved to be both dampener AND swaybar, especially at highway speeds. Axle Plunge became a serious issue; so they...
This version is my current favorite. 50lbs of AWD, All-weather, fast-digging, furniture destroying fun. He didn't include assembly instructions or a warranty; he lets you know what he wants to do instead.
Is that the one that looks like they took the "design cues" from a toaster? That sh itbox Civic design was shaped so they could squeeze as many as possible into a shipping container.
"Cost vs Value", aka "smiles per mile".
That's where the Raptor shines. I don't recall giggling when I had a Honda Civic commuter car. Didn't shed a tear when I sold it. Can't remember what it sounded like, either. My daily driver 3.5 Ecoboost has a value to me whenever I need to haul trash...
