What specific tools did you need? What did you use to clamp it in a vise? I've seen them worked on in a vise, but can't figure out what everybody uses to clamp the shock cans and the rod ends without marring them.
I'm considering Deavers (retaining the oem shackles) & hydraulic bumpstops too. I can build the mounts & strike pad from my stash of P&O steel plate left over from other projects. Right now I'm checking out sources to see where to mount the limit straps on the frame. They need to clear the...
I ordered a prerunner rear bumper from Newline Products last week. Once the bed is off, I'll do the Dovetail mod to it. The oem bumper & spare tire mount come off. I've already got the new KHC rear shock mounts, but they are much easier to install without the bed. I'm replacing the fuel pump...
These are the stands I finished today, (up here in the Hi Dez, where utility power just blipped off and I was briefly on Generac power); the bed comes off this weekend and now I have a place to store it.
That newer, modern rear suspension design is so much better than the previous ones. You never have to deal with wheel hop or driveshaft bind, yet you have more travel. A Gen 1 can get up to 18" (with a spring under axle design), but I'll need a $2000 set of Deavers, custom shackles & mounts, a...
They are similar to the oem springs supplied with every other F150. I doubt they sprinkle Raptor Dust on them. But it's true that especially for the Gen 2 forward, FoMoCo could have offered a better spring & brake kit. Factory Deavers & Wilwoods (as an option at least), could have raised the bar...
Is re-arcing leaf springs available near you? The labor would actually be higher, but you wouldn't be spending the $1600+ cost of the Deavers and it would buy you some time.
You could also do an add a leaf to help. I believe they remove the flat overload leaf, & replace it with a new thinner...
He means parts #10-11, the "drum" brakes that make up the Parking Brake; (which is behind the rotor). There's also fresh oil on the front of the dust shield. Quickest way to figure it out is to pull off the brake caliper & rotor, and inspect if it's dry inside. Use a wire brush & brake cleaner...
Just wait until the unexpected Transmission Replacement happens. The drive in/drive out cost could be $5K or more, including misc other parts. New fiberglass fenders; installed and painted to match, that's almost as much. What I don't see enough of is the gas tank skidplate, the quick release...
You found a "junkyard" 6.2l engine, with only 60K miles on it, that had been opened up enough to put in at least $3400 in aftermarket pistons & rods? Did they not know what they had?
