    Yup true story. I had never used mine in fear of breaking the window. I pulled the connection and confirmed last winter that the mirrors in fact still work/are ran off the same button.

    On each side of the window you can unplug the heating element. This will allow you to still use the heated mirrors without worry of the back window exploding. You will loose the indicator light on the console but they will still work.

    HOLESHOT and BajaTaxi made one from a trailer hitch tow bar thing. Not sure why you couldn't put it through the hole with the rubber grommet in the (in the second picture to the right of the amber light). Maybe bumper would block it? Seems like the best place. Not having done it myself I don't know.
