The point is having a design flaw with the lock that makes it take 3 seconds to break into the truck makes our trucks a prime target. Otherwise they might pass our truck by and break into something else. A lot of thieves don't like to break windows because it's noisy and it's a guaranteed alarm...
Yeah and I just want to bring some awareness to it and maybe we can get something done about it. As consumers we don't really just have to take the L and move on, we can make some noise about it. Owning a Raptor should not be a worrisome, scary experience. It's not like any car manufacturer can...
I think we need to think bigger. Personally I'll be contacting Ford to see if they are willing to do anything for this obvious design flaw of leaving the lock cylinder exposed and vulnerable and flimsy piece of plastic covering the locking mechanism. If that doesn't go anywhere I'm going to look...
Sorry to hear man. I'm not just trying to scare you guys with all my conspiracy theories over in my thread, this is a big deal and it's starting to happen a LOT to newer F-series trucks. Especially in Texas near the border. This isn't just a coincidence. They have discovered how easy it is to...
Yeah I wish I had thought of the key at the time. I guess it's common practice for the dealer to put the second fob/key in the owners manual sleeve. I just thought they had given it to my wife since she was co-owner, actually primary owner of the truck. And when I got out and locked up the truck...
Won't know for another 10 days or so what they're gonna pay out. They have to give the police 15 days to recover the vehicle. They were informed there was a key in there right away and they never said anything about it so I'm assuming it's not a factor in my state/policy.
I know how you feel man, I'm going to feel uneasy parking my truck just about anywhere now. I am definitely buying some antitheft equipment for the new truck ASAP.
I doubt it was any police/gov agency. I used to be in that line of work, we always put them under the vehicle and they had their own power source. It was most likely the dealer trying to scam you for some money by charging you for a "security tracking device", wouldn't be the first time I've...
Well from my understanding it's basically a "down payment assistance policy" if you suffer a total loss due to theft. Yeah it's above your regular insurance and GAP, and it's supposed to give me $3000 to help cover the down payment to replace the truck. If I bought the second truck from the same...
hahaha 74k. good luck with that mate.
OP your truck is sharp, if I saw this a month ago I probably would have bought it. I'm sure you won't have any trouble selling though.
I would say "yes" considering I only paid about $80/month for full coverage and $500 deductible on a brand new Raptor.
How did insurance treat your friend?
Nice info, basically same conclusion I came to. If you don't get rid of that lock cylinder you are vulnerable to a very easy break-in. I watched them get into my truck on the video. It was 5 seconds max. If I end up getting a copy of video like I asked for, I will post it for you guys to see.
Oh nice man! You have a black Raptor? I'm pretty sure I've seen you around then. There's only a handful of Raptors around this area.
Thanks man, I am glad it was just the truck also. Could have been worse. I know the police would have shown sooner if it was a physical threat, I was just in...
Thanks man. I was saving for quite a while to get my 2019 so I wasn't about to wait another month and based on what I saw I don't think they will be able to recover the first truck. If they do, well I guess I will have a Raptor for sale in a few weeks.
Insurance as far as I know only pays out...
The security video just didn't look like a smash and grab, the dudes appeared highly experienced. But either way, I'm just posting this because it's so easy to break into these trucks and I want people to be aware and make sure they take their fob out of their truck and also take that door code...
Same here man. When I bought my 17 the dealer never mentioned it. I found it a couple weeks later looking at the Ford website and set it up. So I knew about it when I bought the truck the other day, we just didn't set it up at the dealer. In all likelihood I would have set it up that next...
Just based on what happened, the security footage, talking to some of the locals there who had their newer F-series trucks stolen, talking to the insurance adjuster based in San Antonio, and reading online, I can pretty much chalk this up to a theft ring operating around the border states that...
If only...well for now I just want to know my wife can go to town and run errands and shop or whatever and be safe, and I can go ride my UTV or go for a hike without my stuff getting stolen. That's not the only reason I moved here but it certainly doesn't hurt.
