Thanks Joe. I sent you the VIN.
Even though the dealer ordered the parts in Aug 2020, the warehouse that he ordered the parts from could have had older stock.
FTO. Would you kindly shed some light on what might be causing the cam phaser issue to recur on my 2018 Raptor?
Build date was Aug 2017.
Cam phasers replaced Aug 2020 at approx 40k
21B10 done Aug 2021
Rattle recurring June 2023 @ 80k
Oil changes always done by Ford at 5k intervals
I’ve got...
Be aware that heat kills the lithium jump packs. I bought an AG XP10HD in 2017 which bit the dust due to heat/swelling this winter.
I’m thinking that the useful life is maybe 4-5 years. The AG was out of warranty, however AG gave me a nice discount on a replacement.
My thinking is now to...
You likely ran your battery down to something like 10% SOC (state of charge).
Running this low damages our batteries.
Use a smart charger like the Victron, per CTK’s Amazon link. Get the 15 amp version, not the 5 amp.
Put the Victron on your battery and let the charger run a full cycle...
Willie…if you are talking about voltage that you see on a gauge after startup, what you are seeing is what the alternator is providing to the battery. You are not seeing what the battery’s SOC (state of charge) is.
Voltage reads higher than actual when charging and lower than actual under...
Ideally you’ll want temp readings from another similar vehicle running right next to yours.
The goal would be to remove as many variables as possible.
Think: same gun, pointed at the same place, same person taking the readings, same outside temp and humidity, both vehicles either parked in...
Be aware that the infrared gun will only take a temp reading of solid objects...it will not directly read air temp. You'll need to aim the gun at something that the cold air is blowing on, then you'll get an approximate temp of the air.
Yep. Good choice. Off pavement mileage is quite a bit less than on pavement.
The 20 mile round trip to drop my buddy off was mostly at 5 mph. That 20 miles took 38 gas gauge miles :)
Adding to the knowledge base.
Had the opportunity to run the fuel down to 6 miles to empty.
Sweating a bit since I dropped a buddy off at his house which is 20 miles off pavement as I was watching the rapid decrease of the miles to empty.
Anyway the fill up took 34 gallons. So at least in...
As crazy as it sounds, wipe the dust off of your seatbelts. We live in the dust in Terlingua and the seat belts slow way down if they don’t get wiped on a regular basis.
I don’t think that he’ll need to remove the tailgate since his Raptor already has all of the hardware. He’ll just need to swap the old damper with the new one.
Mokie...ive not had this issue, however it looks like it might be an easy fix. SImply replace the tailgate damper, inside the tail light housing.
Here's a youtube video that'll help. Check to make sure that the part fits your VIN.
Narrow it down to a specific fuse or fuses. Then either explore individual components in the affected circuit(s) or take to the dealer along with the problem fuse information.
Here’s a place to start:

This stuff is pretty simple, and like many things a bit intimidating until you do it once.
Good luck!
FMoon. It’s only worth it if you are going to be changing your own oil.
PS. If you have the dealer change your oil, make sure to crawl under your truck to see if they put all of the fasteners back in the access cover. Also check to see if they cleaned up the oil mess.
