I’m sorry. Had the repair at 25k, car sat through a six day trip and rattled on startup, 1000 miles since they fixed it. I’m more sad than angry, always been a blue oval family. This may be it.

It’s the valve covers. The design has the gaskets sealing the oil side from the intake side in very close proximity. The seals were updated as well as the PCV built into the top of them. This ended my oil burning. Photo for reference.

If 1% of F150 owners participated in forums I’d be surprised and I have the same feelings toward Raptor owners. Most people don’t enjoy debate with strangers or even expenditure of time.
This thread reminds me of the Corvette LS7 valve dropping issue. There were quite a few vocal posts...
But the cam phasers I got do not match the Tasca part numbers for a 2018 Raptor. In fact I can’t find those part numbers anywhere. That’s what lends me to believe beta testing continues.

All four were bad, one particularly bad. All were replaced with updated part numbers and serialized, which means they feel a need to track these.
No one is saying it’s a defective engine, perhaps rushed out the door 18 months earlier than it should have been. I know they ran the 3.5 in the...
For sure. When the tech pulled the valve covers and front timing cover off you could rotate the RH cam shaft back and forth and nothing else in the system was moving. There was probably 20° of rotational play when un-pressurized.
He has done a lot of these and said mine was pretty bad...
Tech said they would only authorize phasers. He also said that the timing systems, historically speaking, need to be addressed every 100k. The tensioners are updated, they are quite a bit stiffer off the spring with a more robust ratchet system. At 25k in it was ultimately cheaper for me to...
I had serious engine problems. No timing codes however significant misfire events, flashing CEL and limp mode if I tried to get on it.

A lot of the issues with the Whipple tune are attributed to the horrific baseline strategy Ford had for their 10-speed.
To be honest the intercooler is stout! I don’t want to say where but under a full 1 minute WOT run IATs continues to drop until they were within 3° of ambient, thats as...
You can go back to stock. They have to custom do it for you on a case by case basis.
Whipple was supposed to keep their tune part numbers updated at Ford. The idea behind this was to ensure there was compatibility between the BCM, PCM and TCM, all of which had a range of part numbers. In...
No. The truck is flagged and if it has a failure down the road related to a tune I may have an issue. The lead Tech said the phasers have nothing to do with the tune so they didn’t ask Ford for permission to cover it.
That being said they, nor I could get the Whipple tune out. Somehow the...
Interesting article. If this is a factor for bearings then it certainly would be for a phaser at the top end of the system. I am going to disable mine.
“Finally, suppliers are addressing wear with dry lubricants on components like main engine bearings. Engine bearings are typically designed...
All that being said, I love this truck. I thought about trading into an F250 for the diesel, just didn’t enjoy the one I borrowed. This truck brings me immense happiness and hope it’s part of the family for many years. The lady loves to drive it and all too often I get stuck with her...
My perception of the issue is anecdotal. You could disable the function and extend a lubrication problem till much later in life, assuming that is the catalyst. That being said start stop has been around for two decades with the Prius and Honda hybrids and none of those seemed to have...
I’m not sure it’s a problem again. There is a ratcheting tensioner that works before the system presses up, perhaps a very faint rattle is normal before that point. We’ll see. I do think this is a problem that will affect every Raptor... at some point. It would be interesting to see the...
May 2017 build, finally dropped off around 24k. Replaced phasers, I had to pay for timing chains and tensioners. The technician did meticulous work and the entire engine bay looked like a brand new truck afterwards. No smell of coolant, or ticking but I do hear an ever so faint rattle on...
