GEN 2 Loss of power, under heavy accelerating

This was my experience. The phasers were loose. While on a stock tune the amount of overlap or lack thereof under WOT wasn’t enough to trigger a protective function. However with slightly more boost and aggressive ignition tables the slip in the cam timing three general and specific cylinder...

GEN 2 Loss of power, under heavy accelerating

Do you have the updated valve covers? If not it’s potential sucking oil vapor into the intake and getting pre-ignition.

    Warning about Whipple tune

MPT has answered every call. Honestly, there weren’t many, but they got me an OEM tune and a PRX-93 with stock tranny tuning that I am stoked on. So far the MPT FL team has been better than the BF’ing I got from Whipple (had to buy another ECU so the dealer could flash the truck back to...

    Cam Phaser/ Engine Failure Poll

Absolutely, likely during re-assembly. My mechanic said he had once messed up the setting of the timing chain and bent a customers valve and he’s a really good tech. It doesn’t happen while the engine is running but rather while there is spring pressure up against the cam lobes which causes...

    Catch Cans

But they do, or did in my case. See how close the gaskets are between the intake runners and the oil lubricated part of the head? The originally designed covers and seals weren’t preventing oil from being sucked across into the intake side. They changed the design, baffling and seals and I...

    Cam Phaser/ Engine Failure Poll

Thanks for chiming in, its great to have a pro in the forum. Everything you said makes sense, just have one particular question. The oil pressure gauge never seems to move, the PID for oil pressure doesn’t generate a variable. Are you sure the oil pressure gauge shows a difference between...

GEN 2 Loss of power, under heavy accelerating

It’s a misfire bc the cam phaser isn’t clocking the cam correctly and you are getting an actual knock/misfire event. I had this problem and it never returned after the phaser install. A Ford tech can pull up the phaser PIDs on a diagnostic and confirm this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Catch Cans

I got the updated valve cover gaskets 17,000 miles ago and my truck doesn’t burn anything within 7,500 miles. Catch can has been empty ever since. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cam Phaser/Engine Failure Reports

20,000 first set phasers- rattle + limp mode at WOT 27,000 phaser solenoids for a slight decel rattle 33,000 phasers noisy again on startup, no WOT CEL yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cam Phaser/Engine Failure Reports

Yes. Could be actual pinging from too much dynamic compression. My truck did this above 6,000 WOT 2-3 shift every time plus limp mode. Codes were general and specific misfires. After the phaser repair the problem went away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Cam Phaser/ Engine Failure Poll

My strong suggestion is that if you don’t daily drive your raptor to do the following, especially if it sits for days at a time. Press the gas pedal to the floor and press start... the starter will drop out. Repeat, let starter dropout or release the gas pedal before it drops out which will...

    Cam Phaser/ Engine Failure Poll

Absolutely! The engine PCM varies the overlap between the intake and exhaust valves based upon load and RPM. If the engine is expecting X° overlap and the phaser is worn there is actually Y° degrees instead. In my case,at WOT through several gear pulls, the loose tolerances in the phasers...

    Tomahawk Programmer

From my understanding Whipple is using ECUTEK software. Normally you would get a key (usb) that works with a USB to OBD2 dongle, all that is licensed to one ECU ID. You can use the dongle on other cars but you’d need a separate USB key for each ECU ID. I’d be careful buying one. You may...

GEN 2 Whipple Stage 1 Kit Feedback Thread!

    Cam Phaser/ Engine Failure Poll

I got my truck back, gtg. Replaced phasers are still gtg, the exhaust solenoids went out and replaced with an updated part number. The truck still rattles ever so slightly on initial start-up (13,000 on new phasers) but nothing like it once did. The solenoids fixed my “deceleration...
