I can't stand this either. Anyone know where in forscan to turn it off? I did a search through the doc and can't find it. I also go to the school for kids who can't read good so...
Just sent them a quote request. If they can do a set of their springs for $1000 that would be legit, plus they look coated (per their site) so they won't rust or squeak the the Deavers/Icons seem to. I have a client in Grand Junction that's like a block from them. Maybe they get me a set built...
It takes the tech 10 minutes to diagnose. They likely will want it overnight, or want it early so they can let it get cold and then test it, and then you go pick it back up (that's what I did). They gave me a ride to my office, and sent a Lyft for me once they diagnosed it. Waited for parts to...
That seems to be the most probable explanation. I don't know enough about how the system works to understand what causes that to happen. Maybe the updated cam is stronger to pull through such an event.
So the SA just told me Ford wanted that cam back to xray it (I assume that's how you analyze a metal part). Given that, and the updated part number, I'm thinking something is occurring to cause the failure and they know about it, and want to confirm it with each part that fails in the field. I...
No idea guys, just reporting what I saw and what the tech saw. It ran fine for 55k, had phasers done, ran fine for 2k then popped the first pump. Replaced the pump/bolts and popped it again in less than 200 miles. I'm guessing the cam 'twisted' when the first pump popped, and then the second...
Got the truck back! Cam showed up yesterday and they got it all back together. Spoke to the tech who showed me the cam (forgot to get pics). It's twisted almost a half inch. Plus, the new cam is a superseded part number. Of the 4 cams in the truck, that's the only one with a new part number...
I can't stand the electric parking brakes. I've had two of them freeze up when parked and you have to then find the tool to manually release them. The one in my wife's X5 has done it a half dozen times. If you set it and the truck rocks back a bit it seems to put too much stress on the electric...
Interesting. I didn't know that, but it makes sense. The service writer and tech are both seasoned and seem to be stand up guys. I don't really care what happened at this point...I just want it fixed!
Agreed. I have no idea how a camshaft could twist...it would need something to freeze up on it when under load, and then that'd likely make a bunch of other parts in there go kaboom.
They claim the timing is 'locked' in place during the phaser install so the cams can't move, but I suspect the...
Maybe, but why did it last 58k? They did the phasers at 55k. I’m wondering if something went wrong there and it got twisted somehow. That’s an insane amount of force though so who knows.
That's what I'm wondering. How the heck does a cam get twisted? Was it like that since new, or is something else really wrong? Tech said the timing marks don't line up, it's about 1/4" off I guess which is a lot. All the valves and everything look good, so hopefully it didn't damage anything...
Dealer just called. The cam on the passenger side is twisted. No idea how, but apparently it is and that's causing the failures. New cam came in but it got damaged in shipping. None available anywhere I guess. Mid next month Ford says for another cam.
So...anyone got a cam laying around :D
Well the saga continues. Dealer put all new parts in, including a new rocker, and the tech noticed an odd ticking sound when they fired it back up. Thought maybe the new pump was faulty so they tried a new pump, but the ticking is still there. Now they're thinking something with the cam is bad...
I do the same thing, haven't had an issue and not sure how it ever could. If anything it's more sturdy than the stock plastic body shifter. Since you don't have the tow/dm button then your install will be even easier as you won't need to add that switch to the cubby.
You should have some button on the stock shifter other than the + and - buttons to manually shift. I think it may say DM? Not sure, my 18 it's the TOW button (which I've used once, so I don't mind it being in the cubby).
I haven't seen any others, and if there were others I'm sure someone...
I agree. I love it. Everyone that gets in my truck comments on how well made it is. The service writer at my dealer liked it so much he ordered one for his, and he has a CF package as well. He sold his CF one on ebay for more than the cost of the B&M! Nick at Apollo Optics got it to me for...
Interesting discussion guys!
Nothing new yet. Ford gave them orders to tear it down to a point, measure some things, and report back. Slow process. I did get a new limited expedition as a loaner tho!
No news yet. Yes they used the right (new) bolts each time. He even showed it all to me the second round.
I’ve asked if I can get pics of the bolts once they pull them out. Service advisor is going to see if the tech still has them. Ford wants them to tear into the head to see what’s up. If...
Same tech who did my phasers fixed it the first time it sheared off. He’s the most senior tech at a huge dealership. I asked about torque as well and he said he just had snap-on certify his wrenches, which I guess is something they’ve started doing once a year since all these small bolts are TTY...
Ok brain trust, here’s a new one.
On my 2018 the bolts that hold the HPFP down have sheared off TWICE now. First time was about 200 miles ago, and about 2k after the cam phaser repair. Front bolt sheared off, and then the bracket broke around the second bolt. If you look at first pic you can...
Mine pulls a bit too when in 4x4. Every truck I've ever owned with a limited slip or locker up front has pulled a bit to one side or the other when you hammer down. If you're easy on the throttle it doesn't do it. Feels 'normal' to me, but I've been driving lifted 4wd trucks in CO snow for 20 years.
