Gaia GPS - a turn for the worse.

No argument here re Earthmate. I load some key POI's on there in case other maps go for a dump and I need to generally orient myself to get around, but beyond that it's not at all user friendly.

Gaia GPS - a turn for the worse.

I've been on the fence to run yet another device, but I really like this approach. This thread was timely for me. About to do some trips and hadn't signed into Gaia to see the new integration. I just did and turned off default public sharing, switch to private profile and turned off Analytics...

    Rear brake wear

Thanks for this (and all your other contributions). I've sure found them helpful over the years. In addition to the EBD rear bias, the VSC and traction control can get really busy on those back brakes from what I understand. I was getting what I thought was premature wear on my 2019 rears that...

    Driving with Nods

I mean, money is worth - less every year, so this is just rational economic behavior. (That's what I tell myself anyway)

So, I was looking for the cooled seat filter

I've never had such divided emotions about a feature on my truck until now. The so called 'cooled' seats just suck air... a little misleading ffs. But as fart suckers/sharers, basically epic.

    Deavers or Icon's?

Fair enough. Mine would be closer to that if I went with icon's on stage 3, but the stage 2 (replacing 3rd leaf with a beefier leaf) is plenty stout for my application. Any more spring rate and it would be more of a cattle truck ride without weight in the back to offset it. I was on the fence...

If you had to do it again (RIP Raptor)…

19 or 20 would be my recommendation. I'm not sure if the phasers on the '20 are a non-issue, so that might factor into the calculus. Very happy with my fully spec'd '19. I was going to try to get one without a pano roof, but the deal was too hard to pass up on the one with, so I went with it...

    Deavers or Icon's?

Recently did icons on stage 2... 200 lbs on the daily, 450 on trips give or take. And SVC bumps with icon IFP cans. Still pretty new and settling, but so far it feels perfect. Probably most of the hassle with the job was self-induced. I took the time under there to wire brush any rust, rust...

Oil life monitor based on lower of time / mileage?

It seems to be based on a variety of inputs - time, mileage, how used, idling etc as a proxy for actual oil quality. It also is the absolute latest you'd want to change oil. I shoot for 4 or 5k depending on how hard I've been running the truck. It's easy to reset and I look at it as a failsafe...

    Horrible Experience

Not looking to call attention to myself, but I do. I like to support those who take the time to support the community and / or provide above average customer service. It only makes sense. Rewarded effort gets repeated. Sometimes figuring out who's who in the zoo is difficult. This is just a...

    Shovels and Overlanding

Having been on the dumb end of a shovel more times than I care to admit, I have some thoughts on this matter. The R aka reverse comments are good ones. I lot of messes can be avoided, but not all. Sometimes a very slow approach gives you a chance to back out. Sometimes momentum is better. And...

Front/Rear Diff Oil Type and Fill Level

Holding an extra qt seems like reason enough to swap out to one of these when I am due to change the fluid. I'm not sure how much weight to put on the fact they are 'stronger'. Seems like compared to thin stamped steel, it has to add some strength. The ability to fill via top hole is nice.

You never know when it's your time.

Agree, love mine- I went with the Katana boy - bigger timber around here. Some trips I don't bring a chainsaw and this thing is a nice, compact EDC. Bring a wedge or two too.

@Fordtechone - collision assist slammed on the brakes in heavy snow

I mean, I'm not looking to discredit the witness, but a younger me might have stretched the truth a little about what happened to my parents, on occasion. As for my 19 with the 802A, some of those systems seem to turn themself off in heavier snow and ice, rather than anything else. I'm not...

@Fordtechone - collision assist slammed on the brakes in heavy snow

Interesting. I used it once when I got the truck in 19, but haven't used it since. I'm pretty sure there are some situations it will work better than me, but so far, I just pick the drive mode and sometimes M mode and limp up, down, or through whatever and no muss, no fuss.

You never know when it's your time.

I find people are really reluctant to bust out (or didn't bring) shovels. I also have found a little (or sometimes a lot) of shovelling goes a long way. Often it is all that is needed.

You never know when it's your time.

Great list. Adding to C and not taking away from it... there is a split second only, sometimes more, sometimes not at all, when you start to get stuck where you can back out, or back up a little, then forward, then back and so on. Hard to explain, but I've been able to get myself out of being...

    Traction Boards and elastic strap

Good advice. I have a bunch of well rated soft shackles now. I have two big D shackles I drag along with me though - for the times when a soft shackle is no good (hard/sharp edges).

    Traction Boards and elastic strap

this. And I just cringe at how fast people run at pulling others out. I mean, unless it's life or death, or you are otherwise going to disadvantage the situation, then take a smaller pull. It's not an ego contest. If you need to take another run at it, then do it. I'd be very reluctant to have...

    Traction Boards and elastic strap

MaxTrax, Treds and Action Trax. I think there is one other I can't think of off hand. For me, traction boards aren't a do-all option, but they are a tool in the recovery toolbox. I'm in the PNW, so I'm not in sand and rarely in mud. I am often trying to make it across rocky/gravelly washouts...
