    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Parts arrived while I was away on vacation a couple of weeks ago so I got to get back to this last Saturday for a bit. I also needed to order some some wrist pin retaining clips, but couldn't find the OEM part. Found some that would work from Summit that costs $2 for a set but $11 to ship them...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Crank dropped in and main caps torqued down: Checking ring end gap: Okay, so complete honesty here. I was not able to find a good way to get my hands on a ring grinder short of buying a not very cheap tool that I probably would never use again. So my plan was to check the gaps and then...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Squirter plugs got here on time, so I began assembly Saturday morning. My goal was go get the rotating assembly dropped in. And everything was going good.... Till it wasn't. Let's go. Block offs: Freshly Honed Cylinder Walls: Here's a look at #8: Honestly could never tell it was...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Picked up the engine from the machine shop over the weekend. It's been a long time yes, but again I really wasn't rushing them and told them to take their time. They took it pretty literally. When I checked in last week, he realized he still hadn't knocked the block work out yet, so he was very...

FNG checking in from the Carolinas

Haven't done a whole lot to either truck recently, which isn't really necessarily a bad thing. Just picked up the engine from the machine shop, so I'll update that thread shortly. Done a couple of little things. Installed a tailgate assist strut from Ronin Factory. Not normally my type of mod...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Good input. Thank you! I think I'm just going to have to either measure or mock it up to insure they clear the new pistons. If they don't clear, than I have my answer; block-off's needed. If they do clear, than I'm likely to roll with them. Not sure if the bump in oil pressure at the expense of...

Yeah I've seen that guy. It's a nice one. I'm probably just going standard replacement though.

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Hi. Thanks for checking in. Slow. But really by design. I've not rushed it because I thankfully have no reason to rush. recap: 3/20 dropped off at machine shop 4/23 followed up with machine shop and machinist was out of town but he said the head work was done but the block work was going to...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Haha, thanks man! I'm in lol. How dope would it be to see Dubai with a local? No worries about a 'hi-jack'. I love threads with discussion. This one was idle anyway since I've not had a ton of traction on the build. This keeps me invested and excited. Unlucky on that other truck though... Damn...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Sounds like an epic build man!! Much more involved than mine. I'm just hoping I can get it back together and functioning:) Super lucky scoring those H-Beams man. That's awesome! Funny, my wife and I are actually looking at going to Dubai in August for our 10 year anniversary. Never been. Update...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Yeah maybe that’s just me not knowing what I’m doing. We’re not punching anything out as far as I know, the plan is to stay stock size. Machinist just asked for the pistons. I guess he wants them to check the rest and to size the sleeve. Thanks for the feedback. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Um yeah... About that. So yeah, you're spot on. Supplier contacted me last week and, directly from Manley, parts are dis-continued and no longer available. So that's $600 back in my pocket, which is nice. I definitely can't justify the I-Beams for my application and tbh after looking into it, I...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Also, for reference I thought I might add what my machine shop has listed for their work in NC. Straight off their website. I'll detail my personal invoice once we settle up, but this hopefully gives y'all a good idea or baseline of what you're looking at for engine work. MACHINE SERVICE...

They offer dished at 9.0:1 or domed with 11.0:1, both with a slight overbore available. Looks like stock is 9.8:1? I got dished.

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

First box shipments of sexiness came in last night. Pistons, bearings, and springs. Also exposing my first couple of fails. First the ‘rings’ that came included with the pistons were not piston rings like I thought but rather just the pin retaining rings. So now my rationalization for going...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

It's a good question... One I wished you didn't ask. Here's why; Originally I had only priced out the high end I-Beam rods from Manley (P/N 14322-8). Those run about $1488 a set and are good for anything over 800 horse. BUT, since you asked, I remembered that they offer an H-Beam set (P/N...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Thanks man. Yup, they have filters. Something I learned as well, or at least I hope the information is relevant. I've actually not cracked that sprocket cover open to check. At least it's a cheap part if not. And yes, I'm doing all the springs. That qty is misleading because they're sold in...

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

I quick update before it all gets away from me. I'm compiling a spreadsheet which I will upload here once it's all complete so anybody can have the information and reference it. So far it has a chart on it that will give you compression test values. I was also going to include all of the...

Theorized failure mode in my previous post after talking to smarter guys than me. Valve spring was in tact because that was my original theory before we cracked the valve cover. Truck had ~150K on the clock.

    Rebuilding a 6.2 Engine

Nailed it. I been down this path fairly hard core since leaving the machine shop. Pistons and rods are definitely the weak point and Manley is the only game in town as far as forged rods go. You can find pistons at Livernois and Diamond as well that will give you a compression bump. Now that...
