I talk about this often with friends and colleagues. The entire automotive OEM world took a huge turn in the late 2000s after the market crashed. It's extremely apparent when you compare new Toyotas to old Toyotas. Pre 2010 it's completely normal to see 400-500k miles out of any of them...
While I was an engine engineer at Ford we spent a good amount of time on oil pump control revisions last year with the 3.5, that's likely a large part of the update.
Don't ask me for any specifics please, I either don't remember or can't talk about it.
Aftermarket will likely be the most likely outcome. Ford increased diameter from 2.75" to 3" so my guess is if you wanted to run the stock gen 3 exhaust you'd have to buy the stock downpipes too. Part of the sound is also from the x pipe after the muffler. The new sound is definitely a step in...
Thanks! The Husky liners are a great addition in my opinion. While I was down in SC over the holiday we ended up going through some light mud areas, stopped by a DIY carwash and sprayed out the wheel wells in just a couple minutes. Super easy to clean, crap just sprays right off.
Absolutely! On my gen 1 it had the extender when I bought the truck and was a bit dismayed when I found the bed to be about 6" too short to close the gate with my motorcycle loaded but the bed extender solved that problem. So I knew I'd need one for this truck as well. They really do add a ton...
My opinion is that the market for raptor owns is a fair bit wider which makes it more appealing. The entry price is way more achievable for the average joe which I think is the big pain point for the trx.
They're both badass trucks in their own respects, but people will always want to compare...
It's really only needed if you're going to be doing a bunch of off road driving that slings sand and rocks around inside your wheel wells. If your truck is a street princess then there's nothing to be gained unless you don't like seeing the body color inside the wheel wells.
FWIW I opted for...
Thanks! I had 2 weeks off work since most automotive OEMs shut down before Christmas and don't open until the new year. My mom and step father have a condo down in Naples and the rest of the siblings were spending the holiday with their significant others' families and didn't want to fly with...
Bit late posting this here but figured why not. Put another 3k miles on the truck over my Christmas/New Years break with the girlfriend. Drove down to Greenville SC, then down to Naples FL to see some family and spent some time in Tampa for a few days before heading back to SC and then back to...
Just finished up a similar install on my truck. Went with the Builtright dash mount and their underside reinforcement plate. Was just barely able to squeeze the USB extension inside of the reinforcement. I bought the same extension that Drifter linked above. The reinforcement isn't necessary but...
Been looking at bed racks lately. Looking for something to carry a tent that's easy to remove for when I need to haul my motorcycle. Right now I'm thinking my best option in the Thule Xsporter Pro Mid or this rack: https://hutchtents.com/products/custom-rack
My big concern is I'm not sure how...
Thanks for shedding some light. What kind of turbo setups are these usually running? I'm just curious about if the clutches are getting fried from higher torque loads or if it's large torque spikes down low from fast spooling setups. I doubt my truck will ever see anything in the way of upgraded...
Bit of a thread bump but figured I'd share my experiences as I've pulled out a few ill equipped vans and cars stuck on the sides of country roads here in Michigan during the winter.
On most cars it's pretty easy to get around a suspension member like the rear subframe, or a knuckle if you have...
I'd be curious to hear more about what people believe the limitations are in the 10R80. Any concerns with super torquey stock frame turbo setups causing damage to anything?
Another Woolwax user here. Just finished spraying my new truck the other night. Used about a gallon for the whole job.
Dropped all the skid plates and spare tire and sprayed the inside and outside of the frame, rear axle, rear leaves, backsides of bumpers, all bolt heads on the underside of the...
Has anyone compared MCT temperatures with factory bumper vs the ADD pro bolt on?
I have a hard time believing that those holes in the skid plate on the ADD will flow air to the IC as efficiently as the factory bumper inlet.
I stand corrected. It's been a while since I've looked back at this stuff, but I had written that it was projected for there to be a large swing in ethanol production from corn and soy to switchgrass and certain reed based plants over the past 5 years. It seems that push hasn't made the progress...
Most of the ethanol in the US is made from bio waste and switchgrass. Neither are as efficient as sugar cane but that needs a particular climate to grow and mature. Corn's yield of ethanol is actually pretty bad, but it's one of the first forms used to create ethanol which is why you see corn so...
The main benefits of ethanol are its higher octane and (more importantly) its superior latent heat of vaporization. Pretty much what that means is it's better able to cool the air charge and cylinder temps in the engine. Cooler air charge means higher oxygen content which means more power.
Also...
It wasn't a speculation, I've had firsthand experience with the engine. Not saying any more about it.
I think it makes sense to compete with the Rebel still. Only offering an $70-80k truck makes raptor ownership much less attainable for the average person and offering a lineup of trucks makes...
Does anyone have trans temp data from heavy offroad use? I bought a larger capacity trans pan for my first gen raptor because trans temps would get pretty toasty whenever I'd go jumping sand dunes on a hot day. 2 extra quarts would definitely help with temps if they're high.
