If you are referring to @Gumby photos above, the jack is on a metal hitch step turned sideways in the hitch receiver and the jackstands are just under the axle as a safety precaution, not actually touching the axle. The angle of the photo makes it look like it was jacked on the diff, but it was...

I use 87 gas every day, so, I doubt it. Could have been dirty gas from an odd gas station that you stopped at that just got a delivery or has old tanks.
