I totally agree at this point.
Problem is, https://fraserengineco.com/3-5-liter-ford-ecoboost-engines/ are out of stock and so are JASPERs.
Looks like TASCO has some but do they come with all of the TSBs done for 2018 + 3.5 ECOBOOST HO engines...
So for $7k they are basically doing the same thing that the new engine would have.
I am waiting for the exact details of what the shop would be tearing down and rebuilding. I can then do my calculations to figure out if its worth getting this fully done engine and having them drop it in, or...
Well, they want to tear it down because they suspect that it is the crankshaft. Great shop, they are just trying to figure it out you know? Not knocking them.
BUT this website makes my heart feel better - https://fraserengineco.com/3-5-liter-ford-ecoboost-engines/
Seemingly brand new engine...
Alright - diag suggest bad crankshaft.
FKING DAMN IT.
1. Tear engine down and rebuild -$7k
2. Pay for used middle mileage 3.5 eco, $3-4k, $2500 to install, STILL 7k.
Thoughts? Anyone close to MD that can do the install for less than $2500 or have access to good used low mileage engines? If...
Hopefully whomever is leading this has been there before and has a sound understanding of how deep certain waters really are...
I wouldnt know how to call GEICO to let them know that my truck is 8 feet under and gaining traction down the Mississippi...
Right - does anyone have LAT LONG or some sort of landmark of where this starts?
...
...mainly so I can get my Starbucks and Marriott when I get there..
Thats a good copy. I will call the shop. They have done these ecoboost cam phasers before, I do know, I asked.
@FordTechOne
Let me ask you specifically. When getting a refurbished engine, can I ASSUME that internals are new or no and I should put the newer style cam phasers in that...
Exactly.
Drive it, unless your end game is to walk away with equity, which is a dumb game with a liability as soon as you drive it off the lot.
I am most likely looking at a new engine for my RAPTOR and then I will have another roughly 170-200k on the same chassis. The RAPTOR does everything...
I will say, before my cam phaser issue... I had 174,000 miles.
A new engine is roughly 5k and do the cam phasers before putting new engine in, so roughly 7k all in installed. That is less than a commuter car.
Run that RAPTOR!!!!
