Cams need to happen. The Gen2 ecoboost cams are similar to coyote cams.
1. The production ford gt cams are not meaningfully bigger than the f150 cams. And ford charges $6000 for 4, if you have a vin #
2. Valve springs + gen 3 metal chain guides/lifters/rockers are mandatory for a camshaft...
You are in the right place! There is so much incredible talent near you that it’s worth considering options. Ultimately - What do you want to do with the truck? Do you love it and want to keep it?
A gen 2 used engine with the updates listed on page 1 of this thread would be my...
Hi Ted - this sounds like an interesting one.
1, The year of the engine will matter - and it’s still a good idea to refresh it before installation. Generally the late 2020 will have updated phasers and rockers/lifters but not the metal guides
the gen 3 engine can physically bolt up to a gen...
@TheClaw - these are the Garrett Powermax turbo inlets in the photos!
my pleasure
@dillard09 - do you have access to the motor with broken crankshaft? Would love to see a photo of the front of the harmonic balancer crank pulley and get a visual on the elastomer
updates on page 1 chassis post. I just spent a bunch of $$$ and ordered some stuff... once everything arrives I can put my next part # list together and make some magic happen
1. Melling 390HV fits only Gen 1 ecoboost 3,5L (2011-2016 f150, 2015-2017 expy/navi and 2013-2024 transit). this is a traditional pump with a spring to regulate pressure. melling pre-installs a stiffer spring for higher static oil pressure than OEM - and I don't think that's a good thing for...
I added a bit more info on the first page, will begin the chassis writeup tonite
Thanks for the message earlier - 2018 with 100K and original phasers/turbos sounds ripe for this list. Keep in mind I am not a valvetrain engineer (turbos are my thing), with that said here is my understanding and...
It’s up to you how much you want to do while you’re in there for the phasers. in my experience this is primarily a labor expense more than parts cost so you may want to purchase new parts
a high performance twin turbo engine getting reassembled with the old outdated and worn internals isn’t...
There is one other damper company that may be releasing a damper that doesn't require tuning or adjusting like the ATI. If yours is in ok condition you may want to wait to see which is the one to go with. I’m eager to try on my engine and will report here whatever the result is.
I had this happen with the COBB accessport on my Gen 2 also. It is very unsettling, not fun at all. (never happened with HPT or SCT on my other Gen 2). the problem for me was the connection between transmission to trans computer module inconsistently dropping and needed to reset the TCM to...
The plastic timing chain guides, harmonic balancer, rockers, lifters and tensioners are also not included in the TSB, and all are a really good idea to replace
The reason to replace chains is they stretch and it appears techs are not measuring them bc ‘they’re not included in the tsb’
Yes definitely is a better unit - ATI makes a fantastic replacement:

I have a ton of engine and gen 3 chassis content to add - if anyone knows how to get more than 5 images per page Please lmk!
hey thanks for the bump. Im working on the build thread now, all the Gen3 part numbers that you'd want to install in a Gen2 engine are on the 3rd post: https://www.fordraptorforum.com/threads/full-races-gen-2-5-raptor-build.104036/
In my experience, the key to making good power on pump fuel...

At this point - the turbos were installed, the engine sounded awesome and I couldn't wait to take the truck out to play for its maiden voyage. This was the part where things got real. My truck had obviously seen some off road use, and it felt OK in a straight line but wonky on turn-in...
Engine:
Once the turbo kit install was knocked out, I documented the Gen 3 engine upgrades that will improve Gen 2 reliability.
The HL3Z (2017-2020) phasers get all the attention, but most mechanics seem unaware that replacing with the ML3Z (2021+) phasers is only part of the solution. RBM...
Turbos
Our business shifted considerably as we focused on the Raptor and F150 EcoBoost platform over traditional racing applications. We've spent thousands of hours developing, testing, removing and installing Raptor turbos and components to know them inside-and-out. With these trucks there...
Long time lurker, first time poster - this thread will document my journey as I build my Gen2 Raptor. "Gen 2.5" is the designation for combining the 2021+ Gen3 evolutionary improvements with the simpler 17-20 Gen2 platform. I'll be cherry picking the Gen3 parts-bins and using high quality...
this is for ease of install. The oetiker clamp is intended to be left in place. The spring tension clamp makes turbocharger install/removal much, much easier than any other solution. This configuration is proven reliable and if you look at any other big OEM (BMW, honda, etc) you can see they...
i had a similar experience installing the SPD downpipe + trombone loop mid pipe. There is a harsh resonance around 2500-3000rpm.
A few days later, I installed the Formline exhaust manifold and the resonance went away FYI
youll need to use the Gen2 heads. timing components are partly from a Gen3 powerboost and the rockers/lifters are from a Gen3 coyote. The specific part number recipe i will compile and upload when i get some time. Im planning to start a thread with the info. Here's a video from headgames on...
