Same thing happened to my POS AirRaid last weekend. Over 300 offroad miles I lost the filter 4 times. Finally had to cut a towel and wedge it between the side of the airbox and the filter so it couldn't move. PS, put me down as a maybe. I think I might be able to sneak out and be out there...

It's personal preference, it's not necessary. If you are going to keep your spare under the bed I wouldn't change it.
