BUILDING A CUSTOM RAPTOR PRE RUNNER THE OUTLAW WAY
ForumHeader.jpg

Here at Outlaw Raptor we continuously ask ourselves the same questions...
How can you make a Ford Raptor perform better offroad? What else can we do
to make the truck handle even better in the desert terrain? All while
keeping the comfort and luxury of a prerunner fit for a king?? Well here is
the story of a truck where we did just that!

I met the owner of this Raptor a while ago and from the very start I knew he
had been bitten by the "off road bug". He made his grand entrance by towing
his Ford Raptor from Texas to California for the first Outlaw Raptor Run.
Since that run his truck has not left the shop and he has attended every run
except the last two. This was due to his Raptor being stripped down to bare
bones and starting an "Outlaw Raptor pre runner"

Over the last year I have gotten to know this unique chap from Texas (we'll
just call him "Rick") pretty well and quite frankly, he is a hard guy to
impress! So when it came time to build this Raptor for him I knew he would
have high expectations of the finished product. I have only given Rick some
sneak pictures of the truck up until now. Currently the 2011 6.2L Ford
Raptor SVT Crew Cab now has a 2" chromoly SCORE legal roll cage that leads
into a fully tubular rear. We sectioned out the rear of the frame for more
up travel and added cross braces and King 2.5" bump stops in the frame
structure. The Raptor will seat 4 people in some Sparco Evo 3 Racing seats
with 5 point Sparco harnesses that are mounted to a roll cage so Rick does
not lose anyone while flying over the desert terrain! We fabricated custom
rear shackles and had some Deaver long travel springs giving the rear of
this Raptor 18" of fully usable travel. The rear axle housing was gusseted
and a truss was added for more support as well as a quick dump filler for
the rear end. To help control the rear end of this Raptor we will be adding
some King 3.0 bypass rear shocks. To add some skin to the ass end of this
Raptor we added Trophy truck style rear fiberglass fenders. To finish up the
rear portion there are two 37" tire mounts side by side on the back. As of
this week we are concentrating on the interior by adding new black suede
headliner that hides the roll cage and rear inner pannels, new carpet
throughout, moving the GPS unit into the dash and adding the finishing
touches to keep that luxury "Ritz Carlton" interior feel! We'll keep you
updated on this build as we get more parts in...

Still to come:

Long travel Kit W/King Coil Overs, King Bypasses and bump stops.
Steering upgrade
Custom Trophy Truck style bumper with lights.
Fiber Glass Fenders installed or possible 1 pice TT style fiber glass clip.
Drive Shaft
Exhaust mod
Windshield

Nice, what part of Texas is this Rick "chap" from?

I love the Sparco seats, great choice there.

Keep this thread going, I like what I see.

Trucks coming together nicely. I have a few questions for ya

I see the stock gas tank is in the truck, is that getting pulled for a cell?

I know Rick is picking up another Raptor, is he planning on putting the windshield back in this truck or you guys planning on building a TT light rack for it?

Were you able to get these junctions welded 360 degree's? We had to cut the roof apart on my truck(tucked it to tight) but we couldn't get the middle * fully welded. I'm just curious as to how you did it since that's the only section of my cage that's not welded and it bother's me

Rick wants the truck to pass all state laws were he lives. So no change on gas tank and steering wheel. Rick's orders.

Yes all junctions are welded 100%. To do so need to drop the cage down before final assembly and welds are complete.

Your cage is fine most pre runners are not fully welded the whole way around. Most people do not want to cut the roof off.

As I am sure you all know our cages hold up. I can vouch on that. Lol:peace: 90 mph roll over and the cage held up.

Hmmm, Rick said he was planning on racing Laughlin in January so I figured he was putting a cell in

Haha, nice, you weren't kidding. So do you live part time in Austin? I just moved to DFW from Austin, spent nearly four years there, I miss it everyday.
