Possible New Recall

It looks like our lead frame connector TSB may turn into a full blown recall soon.

Imagine cruising down the highway and then your truck downshifts to first gear without any warning. I was almost rear ended when it happened to me.

I’ve had several vehicles with recalls in the past, but this is the only one I’ve had which could cause a serious accident spontaneously.

The TSB originally had a build date that ended in March 2012. My truck was built in 8/2012. It looks like the recall may include the 2013’s too.

Seems to me like that would be the right thing to do. This definitely warrants keeping a close eye on!

Both. They install a new lead frame and update the PCM.

This is a rare occasion when you won’t see any symptoms until your truck is locking up the rear tires at (potentially) highway speed.

My .02 is that anyone who is on the list now to have it fixed before it happens, no sense in waiting to see if it does.

Wait, where's "the list"?

I had a similar issue to this a couple years back where the transmission did some scary stuff while I was towing. They replaced some sensor and it hasn't resurfaced since.

If your truck falls within the build dates included in this document, you will be covered if you let them know your truck downshifted to 1st. It seems like the build dates will be expanded in the near future (this was published in 2016)

Here is the cliff notes version. This came out in 2016, I consider this a “possible new recall” because of the additional trucks involved if they do in fact expand the affected build dates to 2013.

Well crap. I never received mail about this, and I don't remember my EXACT build date - but considering I received my new truck at the end of January 2012... crap.

I just checked my build date and it's 3/2012. Looks like I need to get it to the dealership.

Just call a dealer and run the vin through their system. And if your truck has not been serviced for it get it done ASAP.

I had my 2012 done back in September after experiencing downshift issues. They tried to do just the reprogram of the PCM but the issues persisted. After the leadframe was replaced I have had no more problems. I was initially told the bill would be over $600. Glad I had the bulletin to show the SA that the coverage was extended to 150k miles. No charge.
