Finally got around to installing my Addictive Desert Designs wheel speed sensor shields. Some of you might recall it was my experience that gave birth to this idea, and ADD who first stepped up to create a solution (they're calling 'em "ABS rear protectors")
Install is about as straight forward as it gets. Grab yourself a 10mm wrench, a 6mm allen wrench and get busy crawlin under the truck.
Before getting started I accidentally dropped one of the shields onto concrete. As you can see in the pics, the powder chipped off. I touched up the bare spots with rust resistant paint, but I'm betting all its going to take is a good couple of 'at speed' ticks from tiny rocks or sand to have a similar affect. Not a biggie, but something to keep in mind.
There's the little bastard...
Both sides where barely finger tight. YMMV.
30 seconds with a 6mm allen wrench later and viola!
Be a bit careful when tightening down. The twisting action tended to twist the shield into the sensor, putting a contact strain between the two. Just use your other hand to hold the shield centered around the sensor when you tighten down. And I don't think you need to crank on it either, given how easily my stockers came out. Just enough to cinch things in place.
I'm really impressed with (1) how easy these installed and (2) how well they protect. ADD did a great job designing these. Like I said above my only gripe might be with the powder coat, and potential rust issues if/when it flakes. But other than that (relatively minor issue) I'm really glad to have these installed. As someone who's broken one of these sensors 'out there' and had to limp 50 miles to a dealership not knowing WTF just happened to my truck, I consider this mod a 'must do'.
