Reviving this thread... not sure if same discussion exists somewhere else or not . Sorry if it does.
So here's the deal... Just like the original post for this thread a year ago, I too have a rubbing issue. Only at highway speeds and turning immediately after highway driving. I have a '12 model, so guess Ford never thought it was a big deal. Many of us probably just trim the liner and be on our way.
However, mine had gotten so bad on 2 recent trips, I started suspecting the shock might have an issue. When I got up under the truck, I noticed about a 5" piece of the wheel well liner (driver's side front) is missing right at the front and it's very clear the tire has been rubbing the crap out of that area. Checked the other side - perfect. Interestingly enough, the area that's missing on the left front is exactly where the fastener would normally go which would hold that entire forward section out away from the tire during driving conditions.
Fast forward to today. Took it to the local dealer and explained the issue and my concern about the shock, but mistakenly did not SHOW them the liner. After 2 hours the service rep says the truck is good to go. I ask what they did, he said nothing, the tech checked everything out and the truck is good. REALLY?! So I ****** he and the tech to the truck and show them the gaping hole in the wheel well liner. Imagine their reaction. Now tell me it's all good. Well, before the show and tell took place, the svc rep was trying to tell me about this sheet he printed and attached to my paperwork which was a service advisory for noise from the suspension. I promptly explain to him it isn't from the suspension and even the truck manual mentions that could happen.
Twist to this story... BUT DIRECTLY ABOVE that incorrectly referenced (for my issue) service advisory, and found only AFTER the show-n-tell, the tech notices another advisory which says there's a problem with the fastener on the driver's side forward inner liner failing which then allows the liner to become out of position... hint, hint Ford - AND RUBS THE CRAP OUT OF THE TIRE!
So new liner ordered and a new fastener. We'll see how this goes.
