Guys and Gals, I am looking to adding onboard compressed air for the following applications and would appreciate some 'Compressed Air 101' feedback...

Gun Cleaning Station...I would think a 1-2 gallon tank with a compressor similar to the ones offered by several of our forum vendors would knock this out all day long.

Louder Horn...once again, same system would meet this need, although, even though he doesn't know it, I hope to pickup Ducatisps horn setup when he gets bored with it. lol

Pneumatic Jack...same system, right? I am looking at using the Torin Air/Hydraulic Bottle Jack — 5 Ton Capacity from Northern Tool.

Pneumatic Tools...this is where I could use some help. Is whether they work or not a volume requirement or a PSI requirement or both?

Finally, I seen this discussed over the years, but does the compressor need to be mounted 'right side up'?

-A 2 gallon tank would be sufficient for a gun cleaning station. You wouldn't use enough volume for that application.

-Do you know what setup he has? @ducatisps The hornblasters 540 and 240 kit come with some loud horns. I know this personally. I can't think of any that are louder except if you go to a Nathan Airchime.

-That bottle jack is rated for 80-120 psi so you shouldn't have any issues.

-You can run pneumatic tools off a small 150psi tank but they won't last long. I can remove a tire without waiting for the tank to build up. The compressor will kick on but it's charged back up by the time I'm ready to put the new tire on. This is with the 5 gallon 150psi kit.

-It is recommended to mount the compressor right side up and elevated from your tank. Others have installed them in different positions without issue though.

My recommendation would be either a hornblasters 540 or 240 kit. The only difference being a 2 or 5 gallon tank but if you have the space, go for the 5 gallon.

Thanks Rookie! The pneumatic tool is the least of my needs, but it is good to know that I could run it off of a 6 gallon 150 psi system.

BTW, he has an electrical horn that has several modes, one of which is a good sounding horn!

Ahh. Well, the kits I mentioned have good sounding horns that will make your ears ring when in front of them. When it comes to the horns and the two kits, the biggest difference will be horn time. They rate the 540 kit at 10-15 seconds worth of air time.

For about $2k you can get a K5LA Nathan Airchime kit which is a legitimate train horn. Lol

here, on frf
i run the katrina train horn, 2 viair 400c compressors, and 7 gallons of air in 3 tanks. i can air up tires from 20 to 44 psi in just over a minute each and run air tools with no issue.
