Had a couple Kicker L7 12" subs sitting on the shelf and decided to try and make one fit in the back of my truck. Definitely not the most ideal sub to try and fit in a confined space but its what i had. I found a Kicker 700w amp on craigslist to power it and started building a box.

I removed the factory sub and wanted to try and use the wires from that harness for the new sub. Spliced into the speaker + and - and attached this JL Audio piece to get the RCAs.

I also used the remote turn on wire from the factory harness and ran it through this PAC converter before connecting it to the amp.

I also ran a bass knob to the cockpit for some more control over the amp. I think its a good idea if you are using the factory head unit. Mo' BASS!

The box was built out of 3/4 MDF, woodglue, and lots of screws. Also caulked the inside of it. Black Home Depot carpet is the PERFECT match.

Happy with how it turned out. Can still fit 3 people in the back, and there was still enough room for the race radio. On another forum i was asked if my friends have no legs. Yes they do, and yes they fit back there. Maybe not very comfortably, but supercabs are pretty tight to begin with.

i thought you mentioned you had some clipping at high levels...after doing some research today and calling the manufacturers it seems it should be possible to use the sub speaker lines as a low power line feed with the rca adapter you used without any loss of sound quality or clipping. does your amp have an input sensitivity adjustment? if so it might be turned up too high which is causing the clipping. or if you routed your speaker wires through that PAC that could be causing it.

JL assured me their amp will work 100% with a 200mv - 2v low power input such as a speaker wire and i should be able to use a volt meter to read the AC voltage at the speaker lines after it's installed to dial in the optimum power level based on the sub's impedance.

Might check DC and not AC voltage at the speaker lines instead..

I know a lot about cars/trucks, I can tell you a lot about almost every one on the road. But this is where I get lost. I don't understand stereos. Good thing ford is covering my blown back speaker. I was completely lost looking for new ones.
