Alright so it's done... I ordered the M and R 20" LED Light Bar and figured I would give it a shot. To be perfectly honest I wasn't sure what to expect from the M and R light given its low price.
I did a write up already about my initial thoughts on the M and R light: http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f81/got-my-m-r-20-led-bar-today-10880/ To sum it up, I'm very pleased with the quality of the light and I think for $375, it's well worth the money. M and R also offers a 1 year replacement warranty on all their lights so I felt that would be ample time to weed out any manufacturer's defects.
I guess the best way to put it: If the M and R LED bar isn't quality, then the manufacturer did a great job of faking it. I can't seem to pinpoint anything that is lacking attention to detail or quality.
A big thank you to M and R Automotive because I can't seem to wipe the stupid grin off my face when I'm running the 20" at night lol.
So first for the mount I made here is the materials list:
3 feet of 1/8" x 2" Aluminum
2 feet of 1/8" x 1.5" Aluminum
3 feet of 1/2" x 1/2" Aluminum Angle
(8) machine screws
(8) nuts
(12) washers
(about $26 total)
Here is the raw finished product:
I then cleaned it, scoured it and sprayed it with Rust o Leum Truck Bed Coating. Here are the finished install pictures:
I designed it to mount directly to the inner side of the stock grill mounting brackets, using the existing holes.
I ran the wire off the light to the passenger side mount *tightly* because I needed it to clear the transmission cooler and horns. From there, I routed the wires(wrapped in flex conduit where ever possible) under the hood insulation and down toward the firewall.
Grounded the light to the existing ground on the firewall
Hooked in to my pass-thru wires and used flex conduit and electrical tape/zip ties as much as possible.
Adjusted the light bar angled slightly downward.
Despite my efforts to make it fit, I had to bend back the horn bracket about 1/4" so the light wouldn't hit with the hood down - not that big of a deal I was able to bend it back with 2 fingers.
I checked how my wires would look with the hood closed, wanted to make sure nothing would get pinched and all was good...

NOW FOR THE MAIN EVENT..... THIS SHIT IS BRIGHT
