A Ford Raptor with 3.0 shocks and bumpstop kit is a highly capable off road machine for some, but not all were created equal. For John Bowers that was not enough for his Raptor run excursions, and found he wanted more out of his Ford Raptor. The game plan was to leave one of his Raptors with the bolt on accessories, and the other he would turn into a purpose built prerunner. After shopping around with several aftermarket companies John chose to build his truck here at HM Racing Design. This was in part due to our extensive history in the off road market as well as our previous luxury prerunner builds. We took no time in tearing into John's 2012 Ford Raptor, with only 8,000 miles on it! Every piece of the truck was itemized as it came off, and every stock piece was carefully wrapped and stored to ensure a brand new look when the truck rolled out of the shop.
The strip down
John wanted a race legal roll cage inside the truck, as he and his son are planning to race the truck down the road. The inside roll cage is 2in Chromoly construction, and was built with protection and functionality in mind.
Every Door was carefully wrapped to ensure care was taken during welding. The rear window was also pulled to ensure no splatter ruined this beautiful truck. Just one more thing taken into account during our in house builds.
Frame junction
Our rear cage work was designed to fit an aftermarket Harmon fuel cell, 2 Odyssey batteries, 2 37" Baja T/A spares, a craftsman race jack, storage, 2 heavy duty transmission coolers and room for a heavy duty winch. All this while pulling 26" of rear wheel travel was no easy task, but we did it and then some! The flow and functionality of the tube work is based directly off of our Trophy Truck platform, but built with the Raptor in mind.
