    Upgraded trans cooler from Fordparts

If you want cooler temps, You need to bypass the thermostat in the valve body with this. https://pbhperformance.com/product/6r80-thermal-bypass-valve/ I installed the bypass valve and the larger cooler. I rarely see over 200 degrees on trans temp. If you're pulling a trailer on a hot day, heat...

    HP tuners Cam tuning?

I use HPTuners more for tuning my transmission. I have it setup to shift like an old school B&M Transpak

    HP tuners Cam tuning?

I think you'll have better luck in the HPTuners forum. I found a lot of useful information over there.

    Battery over winter storage??

I've ran interstate batteries for a long time. It seems like they don't last as long as they used to. I used to get 5 years out of them. I'm the opposite of the OP. I run my truck all winter and it sits a lot during the summer. It seems lately that after about two years the Interstate batteries...

    Need steering rack adjustment tool

I had the same problem. turned out to be the dust shield where the steering shaft comes through the firewall. There's a bearing in it that dries out. https://s3.amazonaws.com/rparts-sites/images/996a7fa078cc36c46d02f9af3bef918b/1a4883da21f3f8d14ff6316af0525453.jpg Makes a clicking sound and...

    Powermaster Starters any good?

According to their catalog, the starter is good for up to 14:1 compression ratio

    Powermaster Starters any good?

They said it's not a problem. You can't really see it in the picture. But it looks like a lot bigger bearing behind the gear.

    Powermaster Starters any good?

I decided to be the guinea pig. I bought one off ebay for $188. Part# 9632. It's a little longer than the stock. It's a tight fit to get in, but there isn't any fitment issues. It definitly spins the motor faster than the one I took out. To be completely transparent, I replaced the factory...

    Trans leak, CEL on

Make sure your trans is at the correct temperature when you check it after changing it. I think it has to be around 197 degrees. I think that's the temperature the thermostat in the trans opens to let the fluid travel through the trans cooler. Someone correct me if I have the temps wrong.

    Powermaster Starters any good?

I have an exhaust manifold leak on my Gen 1 and I'm basically replacing the whole exhaust system minus the cats. So I was thinking, while I have everything out, I might as well replace the starter. Mine seems to be slowing down when cranking. Battery is good. I was looking at powermaster...

    Transmission issues

Wasn't there a recall on the output shaft speed sensor that caused the 6th to 1st shift n the highway? Worth a shot changing that. If the computer is getting the wrong info it would shift crazy

    2-3 shift flare

I think this was the kit. https://www.sonnax.com/parts/3052-zip-kit I did it like 8 years ago. I installed it myself. If you go this route, make sure you keep track of the solenoid locations. Because you can mix them up. Some will fit in multiple locations. There's actually serial numbers on the...

    2-3 shift flare

When i put the Sonax rebuild kit in my valvebody, I didn't replace the solenoids. When the lockup converter started acting up, I talked to my friend at a local transmission shop that I had bought parts off for years. He said the real problem is having steel valves in an aluminum valvebody. They...

    2-3 shift flare

I had the same problem with a 4-5 shift flare. Turned out to be the valvebody in the trans. I installed a sonax rebuild kit. It worked for about a year then I started having problems with the lockup convertor not holding. When I got the new valvebody it looked a lot different. Once installed I...

    Transmission running hot in sand

Yeah, I have a gen 1. My thinking is cooler fluid is better than hot no matter if you're towing or just regular driving.

    Transmission running hot in sand

I put in one of these thermal bypass valves, https://pbhperformance.com/product/6r80-thermal-bypass-valve/ and the larger factory cooler. In town driving my trans temp rarely gets above 160 and towing a trailer never gets above 200.

    Any transmission guru's in here??

When I replaced the valvebody in my trans, it came with a calibration tag. After I installed it, I sent it to the dealer on a rollback to upload the new calibration data for solenoids in the valvebody. I was told don't even try to drive it before programming it. I put the stock tune back on it...

    slight jerking/shaking at idle

I would change the upstream O2 sensors(the ones before the catalytic converters). Especially if they are the originals. As they age their response times slow down. This would be more noticable at idle. I change them in my vehicles at 100k miles

GEN 1 RPMs stick at 1500 when coasting at low speeds.

I have a 2013 with a 5star tune. it does it with the 5star tune, doesn't do it with the stock tune. I have both tunes saved with hp tuners, I was going to compare files when I had time, maybe data log the fuel trims when it happens. But if @MFNG is seeing it stock. I wont even bother. I'm used...

    A/C not cooling properly

Did you try to empty the system and put a vacum pump on it? That will get out any moisture in the system. Then fill it with the proper amount of freon. If it has too much freon it wont get really cold.

    Thermostat going bad?

Sounds like there is air in the coolant system. Try putting the truck up on ramps or parking it facing up hill. Take the radiator cap off and run it until the top radiator hose gets hot. Make sure you have the heater on high so it runs through the heater core. That should get any air out.

Clunking sound in front end at low speeds when turning steering wheel

I had a similar problem. I would only feel the clunking when pulling into a parking lot or driveway that had a little bit of a lip higher than the road surface. I changed just about everything in the front end. Including the rack and pinion. Turned out it was the dust shield where the steering...
